During the period of 1975-1977 I served in the USAF, stationed at Clark Air Force Base, Luzon, Philippines. I had the opportunity to photograph some of the indigenous people of this country. This series of photos was taken of the Aeta people in Luzon, the first (aboriginal ) people of the Philippine archipelago.

When I was as a boy in my 12 in a summer camp dedicated to native american theme I was already into indians and loincloths. I was wearing my loincloth made from one long stripe of linen and a belt most time. It was allowed to wear it. Most of boys wore the same light summer dress in there. Once I tried to wear loicloth in a thong style; loincloth with any flaps. I was asked by my leader not to use my native indian thong anymore cause it looks too daring then. I returned back to my common loincloth. What a pity my scout leader did not know this picture. What a pity my scout leader felt concern to have a nearly naked boy in a native thong in his group.

Tato tanga bederka Ilongota je přesně v tom nejlepším provedení, jak to v současné době chápu a hodnotím já, Archer. Škoda, že na jeho nahém těle není lépe nasvícena. Je na pomezí viditelnosti, zejména pak její spodní část. Na druhou stranu to tak může být i výhodou. Tajemství a skládání dílků celku (i) na podkladu fantazie umí doplnit případné nedokonalosti jako jemný tmel. Možná je nakonec dobře, že se povrch této bederky neopéká ve světle slunce / ohně / etc... Mám nastavenou laťku tak vysoko, že mne vlastně už žádná bederka v přímém světle nemůže stoprocentně uspokojit... Vždy je tam nějaké to mé remcání, nějaké to ale. Už jsem rozmlsanej.

Isabelo Montejo delivers the latest model PM radio to a village of Ilongots in the Sierra Madre Mountains. His transportation is by means of a Piper Cub provided by New Tribes Mission, who work in these villages. Mr. Lee German is the pilot. NTM worker Florentino Santos is second from the right. This intriguing photo shows an Ilongot mechanism for scaring birds away from the rice crop. A young boy would sit in the tower and shake the line that went to the fields where birds threatened the crop.
